Mom? Is That You?

One of the most comforting sounds in the world is the call of your name, gently spoken by your mother. Mother's voice quietly speaking your name will reassure and calm you. No matter how tumultuous the relationship between child and mother, when ill or frightened the child will call out "Mom! Mama!" for reassurance. "Mother" is often uttered with the final breath of a young soldier on the battlefield ...

The aliens have figured this out. From the time I was quite young I would awaken to the distinct sound of Mom gently saying my name, "Donna." Not loud, not angry or emotional, not hurried, just a simple and calm "Donna," sometimes repeated over and over. Once I was awakened in that way, they would approach me. It felt like a betrayal for them to come to me this way, but honestly it was a much easier transition than being sound asleep and feeling a sudden electrifying jolt jerking my eyes open, only to see two huge black shiny alien eyes staring deeply into mine.

They have learned that being awakened by the sound of your mother's voice will set the tone for a better experience for both of us.

If you've ever had surgery you know that strange sensation of hearing your name being called as if from a long distance or through a tunnel as you slowly awaken and become less disoriented. Things are foggy and confusing, but hearing your name quietly repeated over and over helps to bring you back into this reality and ground you into your body again. The aliens take that one step further and use your own mother's voice to call your name.

My daughter texted me early one morning to ask if I was okay, as she had been awakened at 4 a.m. by my voice calling her name. I was fine and had been asleep in my own bed several miles away at that time. I carefully suggested that maybe "my" aliens had decided to visit her, as that's how they sometimes awaken me. Her response startled even me - and I don't startle easily anymore. She said her son was a little disoriented that morning and told her he had strange dreams that night, including one of a meteor landing in their back yard. That was no meteor, my thoughts screamed; it's the perfect example of a screen memory to help accept the fact that someone, something, inexplicable had landed in their yard and come visiting, calling them by name.

I'm ambivalent about the idea of the aliens manipulating my loved ones using my own voice but now that I understand they mean us no harm and they are trying their best to approach us without trauma or stress, I will accept it as best I can. They are doing work here on Earth, just as we are, and we are all doing the best we can to create a better world for us all.
